Waistcoat Knitting Pattern for 3-4 Year Old

Size: 1 size only to fit child 3-4 years of age- Chest measurement 25 inches. Length from back of neck to base 11.5 inches.

Materials: 100g Alize Folkloric Batik, example shown in Bonfire Night. 4mm straight needles

The Back
Using 4mm needles cast on 60sts
1st Row:  Knit
2nd Row:  Purl
Repeat these 2 rows until the back measures  14cm, ending after a 2nd row has been worked.

Shape armholes:
Cast off 3sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st.beg. of next and following 2 alternate rows. (50 stitches remaining.)

Continue in st.st for 11cm.

Shoulders:

CO off 4 stitches at beginning of next and following 3 rows, 34sts. remaining, cast off.


Left Front
Cast On 12sts

Work in st. st. throughout, 1row knit, 1 row purl.

1st Row:Knit to end, cast on 2sts (front edge)                                                      (14sts)

2nd Row: Inc in first st, purl to end  (15sts)

Repeat the last two rows once more (18sts)

Work 13 rows inc 1 st at front edge in next & every foll alt row (25sts)

Work 12 rows inc 1 st at front edge in every foll 4th row                                     (28sts)

Continue without shaping until front measures 14cm, ending after a 2nd row has been worked

Shape armhole:
Cast off 3sts at beginning of next  row. Dec. 1 st.beg. of next and following 2 alternate rows.(22sts. remaining.)

Continue in st.st for 11cm.

Shoulders:

CO off 4 stitches at beginning of next and following alt row,  cast off remaining stitches.


Right Front
Cast On 12sts

Work  in stocking stitch throughout,1row knit, 1 row purl.

1st Row:  Inc in first st (front edge), knit to end                                                    (13sts)

2nd Row:  Purl to end, cast on 2sts                                                                          (15sts)

Repeat the last two rows once more   (18sts)

Work 13 rows inc 1 st at front edge in next & every foll alt row                      (25sts)

Work 12 rows inc 1 st at front edge in every foll 4th row                                   (28sts)

Continue without shaping until front measures  14cm, ending after a 1st row has been worked


Shape armhole:
Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next  row, purl to end Dec. 1 st.beg. of next and following 2 alternate rows.(22sts. remaining.)

Shoulders:

CO off 4 stitches at armhole edge and following alt row,  cast off remaining stitches.

Lower Back Border:
With right side facing, and using 4mm needles pick up and knit 60sts evenly along the cast on edge of the lower back.


1st Row:  Work in K2,P2 rib
2nd Row: Work in P2, K2 rib
Repeat the last two rows twice more
Cast off in rib.

Front Border:

Join sleeve seams

With right side facing, and using 4mm needles pick up and knit 72sts along the front edge,14sts across the back, 72sts along the front edge.   (158 sts)

1st Row:  Work in K2,P2 rib
2nd Row: Work in P2, K2 rib
Repeat the last two rows twice more
Cast off in rib.

Armhole Edge:

With right side facing, and using 4mm needles pick up and knit 56 sts evenly along the  armhole edge.

1st Row:  Work in K2,P2 rib
2nd Row: Work in P2, K2 rib
Repeat the last two rows twice more
Cast off in rib.

Finishing:
Join side seams, darn in loose ends.
