What are microfiber yarns ? The name is applied to yarns which are made up of ultra fine fibers. Many of these fine fibers are packed together and this creates a depth and a body to the fabrics from which they are made.
Although fine and lightweight they don't exhibit a flimsy quality but generally speaking microfiber yarns will produce a fabric with a luxurious feel and "drape," they are wrinkle free, retain shape well, and resist pilling. Also, they are relatively strong and durable in relation to other fabrics of a similar weight.
Because microfibers are so fine many fibers can be packed together very tightly. This denseness results in another desirable property, with many more fine fibers required to form a yarn, greater fiber surface area results making deeper, richer and brighter colours possible.
When comparing two similar fabrics, one made from a conventional fiber and one from a microfiber, the latter will generally be more "breathable" and more comfortable to wear. Microfibers are less "clammy" in warm weather than conventional synthetics.
So altogether these yarns have much going for them and we hope that you will enjoy the selection that we currently offer to you at The Knitting Wool Store.
