As with all books in the "Dummies"range Knitting Patterns for Dummies is a perfect reference book for someone looking for an introduction to the subject. It is full of simple to follow patterns with step-by-step instructions, illustrations, and all the information and know how you will need to get you on your way to fully mastering the wonderful craft of knitting.
"Knitting Patterns for Dummies is an excellent all round knitting book, with straight forward and achievable projects, clearly illustrated, pictured and described. I wanted an all in one book to learn knitting from scratch on my own, I wanted to avoid having to get lots of different books for this. Hence the book had to teach the basics, casting on, knit and purl stitch, binding off. I wanted it then to gradually lead me through picking up further skills via small achievable projects (e.g. kerchief, pot holders / coasters, scarf, beanie, mitts, wrist warmers, bags), i.e. increasing / decreasing / different more interesting stitch varieties / rib / cable / knitting in the round / joining pieces of knitting together, blocking, felting. The book delivered to all my requirements. I am now moving on to larger projects like the pullovers with a sense of confidence after having done alright so far and having already made things that I like to use or wear. The patterns and projects are classic and stylish and I like them for that, I particularly like the fact that the author encourages you to try variations of the patterns and gives guidance in this direction. In the end I like to think that I will be able to design my own things or alter patterns myself and the book leads you in this path. In summary, I am really pleased with the book, it provides a good well explained modular progression though the art of knitting, gradually introducing new skills through interesting and engaging projects, the patterns are stylish, there is a lot in this book, it seems fairly comprehensive in scope but is paced well and so gives a sense of achievement and confidence and avoids overwhelming you. I tell you what, it make you feel "yep I can do this"."
"Thank God a book on knitting for people who find it difficult, very easy to follow diagrams are very simple just what you need."
Fab little book if you've got the hang of the basics of knitting, and want a hand understanding knitting patterns. It includes a range of basic knitting patterns, and steps to help you understand them. It's taken me a while to get the hang of knitting more than a scarf, so I brought this book to help, and in the space of a week, I've already knitted a pair of baby booties, and started on a bag :)
