How to work Kitchener StitchInvisible Kitchener Stitch Seam

Kitchener Stitch is a very useful way of grafting your knitting when you want a nice flat invisible seam such as for socks,hoods, hats etc.

It is worked with "live" stitches divided equally between 2 needles. A blunt ended  needle and matching thread  are then used to effectively make the Kitchener Stitch imitate the knitted fabric

How to work Kitchener StitchFig.1

1, Divide the stitches to be joined equally between 2 needles and hold them parallel to each other. Working with a tail of yarn, preferably from the back piece,thread it onto a blunt ended needle .

3,Insert the blunt ended  needle knit wise into the first stitch on the back needle and pull the yarn through, leaving the stitch on the needle.

5,Insert the  needle purl wise into the next stitch on the front needle and pull the yarn through, leaving the stitch on the needle.

2,Insert the  blunt ended needle purl wise into the first stitch on the front needle and pull the yarn through, leaving the stitch on the needle.

4,Insert the needle knit wise into the first stitch on the front needle and pull the yarn through, dropping the stitch from the needle.

6,Insert the tapestry needle purl wise into the first stitch on the back needle and pull the yarn through, dropping the stitch from the needle.

8,Insert the tapestry needle knit wise into the first stitch on the front needle and pull the yarn through, dropping the stitch from the needle.

9,Insert the tapestry needle purl wise into the first stitch on the back needle and pull the yarn through, dropping the stitch from the needle.

10,Pull the yarn tight, cut it off to a short amount, and weave in yarn on the inside of the work. You should have a seamless edge that mimics the stockinette knitting. Voila
