Increasing Stitches.
To increase means to add a stitch or stitches thereby changing the shape of your knitting. Stitches can be added invisibly or decoratively; slanting to the left or right; at the edges or in the middle of a row.

Decorative Increasing,Forming Eyelet Holes

On a knit row, work until position for increase is reached. Bring yarn forward between the needles and back over the right hand one.Knit the next stitch. On the next row the yarn over the needle is worked as a stitch. In a knitting pattern this is called  yf.

On a purl row,work until position for increase is reached. Take yarn from front of work over and under the right- hand needle and purl the next stitch.On the next row the yarn round the needle is worked as a stitch. In a knitting pattern this is called  yrn.

1, Pick up yarn lying between the stitch just worked and the next stitch on left- hand needle and place on left- hand needle.

2,Knit into the back of the loop- this twists the stitch and avoids a hole. In a knitting pattern this is called  M1.

Invisible Increase Purlwise

1,Pick up yarn lying between the stitch just worked and the next stitch on left- hand needle and place on left- hand needle.

2,Purl into the back of the loop by inserting the right-hand needle from left to right to twist the stitch, this avoids a hole in the fabric.  In a knitting pattern this is called  M1 pw.

Increasing Into a Knit Stitch

Knit first stitch but do not drop it off the left-hand needle.Insert right-hand needle into back loop of the same stitch and knit again, this time dropping the stitch off the left--hand needle. In a knitting pattern this is called  inc.kw into next st.

1,At position of increase purl next stitch but do not drop it off the left-hand needle.

2,Insert right hand needle into back of loop of same stitch and purl again, this time dropping stitch off the left-hand needle. In a knitting pattern this is called  inc.pw into next st.

slanted increases

Increasing to the right on a knit row.

At position of increase,insert right-hand needle into top loop of stitch on row below next stitch on left hand needles. Knit an extra stitch through this stitch then knit the next stitch on the left-hand needle.The increased stitch slants to the right on the knit side of stocking stitch.

Increasing to the left on a purl row.

At position of increase,insert right-hand needle into top loop of stitch on row below next stitch on left hand needles. Purl an extra stitch through this stitch then purl the next stitch on the left-hand needle.The increased stitch slants to the left on the knit side of stocking stitch.

Increasing Several Stitches at the Beginning of a Row.

1, It is easier to cast on at the beginning of 2 consecutive rows than at the beginning and end of the same row.Use the 2 needle method to cast on the number of stitches required at the beginning of the row.

2, Work across the cast on stitches and continue to the end of the row.Cast on the same number of stitches at the beginning of the next row, again using the 2 needle method.
