A delightful child's sweater with hood and pouch pocket.

Materials: 3,3,3,4 x 100g  balls of Dancing Baby by YarnArt.

Needles: 2.75mm and 3.5mm straight needles. 3.5mm 60cm circular needles for hood.

Size: 26",28", 30", 32"

Instructions for Hooded Jumper Knitting Pattern


Using 2.75mm needles cast on 64,68,72,80 stitches. Work in K1,P1 rib for 8 rows. Change to 3.5mm needles and work in pattern as follows-

Row 1: K2,P2 to end
Row 2: K2,P2 to end
Row 3: P2,K2 to end
Row 4: P2,K2 to end

Continue in pattern until piece measures 8", 9",10.5", 12".

Shape Arm Holes:
At the beginning of the next 2 rows cast off 4 sts.
At the beginning of the next 2 rows cast off 3 sts.
Size 1,2 and 3 decrease 1st. each end of next right side row.Size 4 repeat decrease 2 more times.

You  now have 48,52,56,60 stitches remaining.Work in st.st until armhole measures 8.5",9",9",9.75,10", 10.25"

Keeping pattern straight continue until armhole measures 5.5",6.5", 7", 7.5"

Shape shoulders:
At the beginning of next 2 rows cast off 6,7,7,8 sts.
At the beginning of next 2 rows cast off 6,7,7,7  sts

Slip remaining 24,24,32,18,18,30 sts. onto a holder.

Cast on and work rib as for back. Change to 3.5mm needles and work rows 1 and 2 of pattern.

Pocket: Break yarn, slip 1st.16,16,16,20 sts onto a holder, pattern across centre  across next 32,36,40,48 sts, slip last 12,14,15,17,17 sts onto a holder.

With right side facing rejoin yarn and work pocket front  on centre stitches as follows:-

K1,P1,K1,P1, pattern to last 4 sts,K1,P1,K1,P1. Continue for 4",4",4.5", 5". Break yarn and place stitches on a holder.

Rejoin yarn to 1st 16,16,16,20 sts and pattern across, cast on 32,36,40,48 for pocket lining then pattern across remaining 16,16,16,20 sts. Now work as follows, keep pattern correct on side stitches but work in st.st for lining for 4",4",4.5", 5".

Next row from right, pattern  16,16,16,20 sts., cast off centre 32,36,40,48 sts. pattern to end.

Next Row: with wrong side facing pattern 16,16,16,20 sts slip pocket front stitches back onto needle and pattern to end.

NOTE: to keep pattern correct it may be necessary to work 2 sts. together where the rib edging has been worked on pocket front. Then in order to keep st. count correct cast on lost stitches at either end of next row.

Now work in pattern over all stitches as for back until armhole measures 4",5",5.5",6"

There will be 48,52,56,60 stitches remaining.

Shape Neck: With right side facing work across 19,20,21,22

Cast Off centre 10,12,14,16, you will now have 19,20,21,22 stitches on each side, complete separately.

Next Row: cast off 3 stitches at neck edge.

Next Row: cast off 2 stitches at neck edge. The decrease 1 st at neck edge 2,1,2,2 more times. You will now have 12,14,14,15 stitches remaining.

Work until armhole measures same as for back.

Shape shoulders:
At each shoulder  cast off 6,7,7,8 sts.
Then cast off 6,7,7,7  sts

Using size 2.75mm needles  cast on 28,32,32,36 and work in K1, P1 rib for 8 rows.

Change to 3.5mm and work in pattern as for back. Keeping pattern correct inc. 1 st. each end of every 6th. row until 48,58,62,68 stitches.

Now continue straight until sleeve measures 11", 11.75", 13:, 14.5"

Shape Sleeve  Cap:
At the beginning of next 2 rows cast off 4sts.

At the beginning of following 2 rows cast off 3 sts.

Dec. 1 st. each end of needle next right side row for sizes 1,2 and 3 and 3 times for 4th. size.

You will have 32,42,46,48 stitches remaining.

Work 3 rows then decrease 1 st each end of needle.

Decrease each end of needle every other row 4,6,9,7 times

Then cast off 2 sts at beginning of next row 0,2,0, 2 times.

Then cast off 3 sts. at beginning of next 2 rows

The cast off 2 sts at beginning of next 4 rows

You now have 8, 10, 12, 14,stitches remaining cast off all.

Hood: Join shoulder seams. Using 3.5mm circular needles pick up 16,16,16,20 stitches evenly from right front, work across stitches on holder and then pick up 16,16,16,20 stitches evenly from left front front.

Working a K1,P1,K1,P1 edging at each side continue in pattern as for back for 10",10",11",11" cast off.

Fold hood in half right sides together and sew seam.
Slip stitch top and bottom of pocket lining to the in place.
Set sleeves in sleeves then sew underarm and side seams.
