The figure of 8 cable stitch is a useful cable stitch to learn, it can either be incorporated into an Aran pattern along with other cable stitch panels or it could be used as an overall pattern.
You will need 2 cable needles.
Cast on a multiple of 12 stitches.
Row 1: * P1,K5,repeat from * to end.
Row 2: * P5, k1, repeat from * to end.
Row 3: P1, C5, (slip next st. onto 1st cable needle and leave at front of work, slip next 3 stitches onto 2nd. cable needle and leave at back of work, K1, then knit 3 from 2nd. cable needle and K1 from 1st. cable needle), P1, K5, repeat from * to end.
Row 4: As row 2.
Rows 5 and 6: As rows 1 and 2.
Row 7: * P1, K5,P1, C5, repeat from * to end.
Row 8: As row 2.
