Chess Board Stitch
Chess Board stitch is a small repeating pattern knitting stitch that will produce a thick, almost double fabric when used as an all-over design for a jacket, or try using on the front and back of a sweater with the sleeves worked in either st.st. or reverse st.st.
It is worked over 12 rows to form the pattern.
Cast on a multiple of 8 stitches
Row 1 *P4 ,K4 rep from * to end.
Row 2 *P4, K4 rep from * to end.
Row 3 *P4 ytb,loop 1R ( insert right-hand needle between 2nd. and 3rd. st. on left-hand needle 2 rows below, wind yarn round needle and draw loop through onto right-hand needle), K4 loop 1L (insert right-hand needle into same place as loop 1R, wind yarn round needle and draw loop through onto right-hand needle), rep. from * to end.
Row 4 *P2 tog,P2,P2tog tbl,K4,rep. from *to end
Rows 5 and 6 As rows 3 and 4.
Rows 7 and 8 *K4,P4, rep from * to end.
Row 9 *Loop 1R K4, loop 1L, P4 rep from * to end.
Row 10 * K4,P2 tog, P2, P2 tog tbl, repeat from* to end
Rows 11 and 12 as rows 9 and 10.
