As with so many diminutive things the idea of Amigurami stems from Japan, the word is actually made up of two Japanese words, ami meaning crocheted of knitted and niugurmi meaning stuffed doll, but it has caught the imagination of many crafters in the west and is now very popular amongst crocheters of all levels.
