How to Knit Horizontal Pockets
This style of inserted pocket is the most frequently found in knitting patterns. The pocket lining is knitted separately first and then inserted at the appropriate place. The lining is worked in stocking stitch for a firm fabric without bulk.
1, Cast on stitches for the pocket lining and work in stocking stitch to the required depth, ending with a knit row. Break off the yarn and leave stitches on a holder. Knit garment until pocket top rib has been completed, ending with a wrong siderow but do not cast off.
2,Knit to beg. of pocket top, cast off pocket top in rib then knit to end. Turn and purl to beg. of cast off stitches.
3, With wrong side facing purl across pocket lining stitches from holder then purl to end of garment.
4, When garment is complete slipstich edges of pocket lining in place on wrong side of work.
