Charmin Grannies Tea Cosy

Grannies Tea Cosy Pattern, please feel free to use this knitting pattern and whilst we hope it works out well for you the Knitting Wool Store disclaims all  responsibility.

Materials: SuperLana Klasik 100g of three contrasting shades.

4mm straight needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge.
Gauge: 23 sts x 32 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm.

Knitted in garter stitch throughout, knit every row, using
2 colours per row. The gathers are formed by pulling the yarn
not in use across the wrong side of the work. Twist the strands
of yarn together at the end of each row before turning and starting
the next.

Make 2 identical pieces and sew together at sides leaving gaps for
handle and spout.

Cast on 98using main colour (MC.)

Row 1, (WS) with MC k all stitches.

Row 2, (RS)  with MC K9 *with contrast 1 (C1) k8,MC k8* repeat from
*to* 5 times. With C1 K9. Pull the unused yarn across the back as you work and twist  yarns together at end of row,

Row 3, (WS) with C1 K9 *with MCk8 with C1 knit 8* repeat  from *to* 5 times. With MC K9

Row 5,(WS) with MC k9 *with C2 K8 with MC K8* repeat from *to* 5 times. With C2 K9.

Repeat rows 2-5 14 times and then rows 2 and 3 once more. 63 rows will have been worked and you will end with a WS row.

N.B.
When working RS pull the unused yarn across the back as you knit and twist yarns together at the ends.

When working WS remember to bring the yarn forward between needles and pull the unused yarn across the front.

It is important to get the tension right when pulling the unused yarn across the back, too tight and the result will be too narrow , just pull the yarn gently enough to take up the slack so there is no loop at the back. Try to aim for a bottom width of 10",26cm.

Decreasing:-

Leave these 8 stitches on a holder, break yarns leaving long tails.
Make second piece.

When both sides are finished use the MC tail to thread through the 8 stitches remaining on both pieces and draw together.   Use the other tails to sew the pieces together using mattress stitch, remembering to leave gaps for spout and handle.

Make a pompom or a crocheted flower for the top.

Put the kettle on and have a nice cup of tea!!
